Dana Point Harbor Launch Ramp
Dana Point, Orange County, CA
Overview
The Dana Point Harbor launch ramp is the main public trailer-boat launch in south Orange County. It is part of Embarcadero Marina at 34512 Embarcadero Place and is run by Embarcadero at Dana Point under the County's harbor. The harbor describes it as a modern six-lane facility, and a ramp area about 225 feet wide with three 8-foot-wide boarding floats. Thousands of day boaters launch here each year.
Why boaters use it
Launching inside the breakwater means a short, protected run to open water. Anglers, sailors and cruisers all use the ramp, and the harbor is a departure point for trips along the coast and toward Catalina. The Orange County Sheriff lists the ramp as open 24 hours, which suits early departures.
Fees, parking and services
The OC Sheriff's Dana Harbor page lists $15 per vehicle with trailer. Rates change, so confirm what is posted at the ramp. The state boating facilities database lists 150 spaces for cars with trailers and notes a launching valet, boat washdown and restrooms. Embarcadero also offers dry storage and overnight trailer parking on the same site, so you can leave a rig for the night. Call (949) 496-6177 about oversized boats.
Before you go
Expect heavy traffic on summer weekends and holidays. Rinse trailer and outboard after salt-water use. The harbor speed limit is 5 mph, and the Boater Card is required for operators of motorized vessels.
Getting there & access
Getting there
The ramp is at 34512 Embarcadero Place in the east side of Dana Point Harbor. Follow Dana Point Harbor Drive into the harbor and signs for Embarcadero Marina. Coordinates in the state boating database put the facility near 33.4612, -117.6916.
Launching and parking
Six lanes and three boarding floats let several boats launch at once. The state listing shows 150 trailer-with-car spaces, a launching valet and overnight trailer parking at Embarcadero. Lots fill early on summer weekends, so arrive before the rush or plan on a weekday.
Oversize boats
The Sheriff's page says to call (949) 496-6177 for oversized boats. Check beforehand rather than arriving with a boat that is beyond the ramp or valet limits.
Heading out
From the launch basin you run through the harbor at 5 mph, then out between the two breakwaters. Watch for the 7.5-foot rock and lighted buoy northeast of the south breakwater light, and monitor VHF 16.

Common boat service needs here
Trailer and outboard care
Salt-water launching is hard on trailer bearings, brakes, lights and outboards. Regular trailer checks and engine service help avoid ramp-side breakdowns.
Find Marine Mechanics & Engine Service providers →Washdown and detailing
Boats kept on trailers between trips benefit from freshwater rinses and periodic wax to hold off salt and sun damage.
Find Boat Detailing & Washing providers →Gelcoat restoration
Outdoor trailer storage in strong coastal sun leads to chalky, oxidized gelcoat that compounding and polishing can restore.
