Marina guide
Marina Bay Yacht Harbor
Richmond, Contra Costa County, CA
Overview
Marina Bay Yacht Harbor is a large harbor on Richmond's inner shoreline in Contra Costa County, at 1340 Marina Way South. California Parks lists 850 slips and tie-ups, and the harbor has 20-120 ft wet and transient slips with a maximum draft of 18 ft. The City of Richmond built it in the early 1980s as part of redeveloping the former Kaiser Shipyard No. 2, and it is now operated as Safe Harbor Marina Bay Yacht Harbor.
Slips, launch and services
Transient slips are offered for boats of 20-120 ft, with shore power, water, pump-out and Wi-Fi. The operator lists a launch ramp open 24 hours a day with a freshwater wash-down; fees are listed at $18 per 24 hours, $36 for 48 hours and $375 for an annual pass, so confirm before you go. The corrugated concrete ramp has two high-freeboard docks and an ADA low-freeboard dock with kayak assist, and the ramp is in the harbor's northwest corner. The harbor office is open Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm, and the operator lists VHF 16.
Channel, depths and hazards
The entrance channel was dredged to -12 ft MLLW in fall 2011. A November 2025 Corps of Engineers public notice for maintenance dredging of about 112 acres described current depths of -10 to -13 ft MLLW against a design depth of -12 ft, so check depths before a low-tide entry. West of the harbor, the Santa Fe Channel carries commercial shipping, and a 300-foot exclusion zone surrounds the Chevron Long Wharf. Frequent winds make the area lively for small boats.
Nearby
On site are Lara's Fine Dining, 510-Waterline and the Tradewinds sailing school. Rosie the Riveter park and the former Ford Motor Company assembly plant, now a mixed-use complex, are close by, and the Richmond Ferry Terminal reopened in 2019.
