Marina guide
PIER 39 Marina
San Francisco, San Francisco County, CA
Overview
PIER 39 Marina is a 300-berth marina at PIER 39 on the Embarcadero and Beach Street at Fisherman's Wharf. The shopping complex opened on October 4, 1978. The marina is split into the West Yacht Harbor, which handles guest docking for vessels up to 60 feet, and the East Yacht Harbor, which offers long-term and transient slips for boats up to 85 feet. Slips are double-fingered wooden docks with power and water, and the marina prioritizes long-term tenants over transient boaters.
Guest slips
The guest page lists day stays (8 a.m. to 3 p.m., $25) and overnight stays ($50), available March through mid-October, with no guest docking during dredging; the page posted a closure from August 20 through October 1. Reservations need at least 24 hours' notice, with no same-day requests, by email to marina@pier39.com with your name, phone, address, vessel details (name, make, year, length, draft, beam), a liability certificate and USCG documentation. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., so weekend requests are reviewed the next Monday. Confirm rates and dates at (415) 705-5436.
The sea lions
California sea lions began hauling out on the marina's K-Dock shortly after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and had taken over the dock by January 1990; The Marine Mammal Center advised letting them stay. Numbers rise and fall with the seasons and food supply, with an all-time record of over 2,100 reported in May and June of 2024. It is unlawful for unauthorized persons to feed, handle or harass them, and they may bite if provoked.
