Overview
Long Beach Yacht Club (LBYC) is a private club at 6201 E. Appian Way on Alamitos Bay, in the Naples community. It was founded in 1929 and is best known as the organizer of the Congressional Cup, a World Sailing Grade 1 match-racing event first sailed in 1965. The club's 61st Congressional Cup was scheduled for April 28 to May 3, 2026.
Racing and events
LBYC's calendar includes Opening Day (March 14), the Wet Wednesday series, the Catalina Island Series, an Olympic Classes Regatta and Long Beach Race Week, which it co-hosts with Alamitos Bay Yacht Club. The club keeps a fleet of matched Catalina 37s, used for the Congressional Cup, and rebuilt Solings. Match races are sailed off Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier.
Facilities and programs
The waterfront clubhouse has a pool, dining and banquet rooms, locker rooms and docks. LBYC runs adult and youth sailing instruction, with junior sailors in Sabots, FJs, Lasers, C420s and 29ers, and swim programs.
Visiting by boat
The club is not open to the public. Reciprocal yacht-club members are welcome with a valid membership card or letter of introduction and may use dining, lounge, pool, locker rooms and guest moorage. Moorage is limited to two separate seven-day periods per reciprocal guest per calendar year, and the club's Stay With Us page uses Dockwa for reservations. Parking inside the gate is for members only. Call (562) 598-9401 before you plan a visit.
Getting there & access
By water
The club is on Alamitos Bay, reached through the harbor entrance between two lighted jetties. See the Alamitos Bay guide for entrance hazards. Make arrangements with the club before arriving.
Guest moorage
Open to reciprocal club members only, with a valid membership card or letter of introduction. Reservations run through Dockwa on the club's Stay With Us page, or call (562) 598-9401.
