Yacht club guide
California Yacht Club
Marina del Rey, Los Angeles County, CA
Overview
The California Yacht Club (CYC) is one of Southern California's oldest and best-known yacht clubs. It was founded in 1922 and is based on Admiralty Way in Marina del Rey with direct access to Santa Monica Bay. It's a private, members-only club with a large marina, and it's a center of the Los Angeles racing scene.
Racing and sailing programs
CYC runs a full regatta calendar for keelboats and one-design fleets, and keeps archived results on its website. It also hosts rowing events such as the Head of the Marina regatta. Its junior sailing program covers instruction at several levels, a junior racing team and seasonal summer camps. It's one of the main ways young sailors on the Westside learn to sail.
Club facilities
Beyond the marina, the clubhouse has dining venues, event spaces, a pool and aquatics, a fitness center, and racquet sports including paddle tennis and pickleball.
Visiting by boat
Members of clubs with reciprocal guest and moorage privileges can request a guest slip. The first night is complimentary under reciprocal policy, and later nights are charged per foot. Guests must carry specific insurance, so read the guest dock agreement before arriving. The dock office is open Tuesday to Sunday.
Getting there & access
Reciprocal guest moorage
Guest slips are for members of clubs with guest and moorage reciprocal privileges. Bring current membership documentation or a letter of introduction. Guests may stay up to two separate seven-day periods per calendar year.
Arriving
Check in at the dock office, open Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm. If you arrive outside those hours or on a Monday, check in the next morning. Power differs from slip to slip, so bring your own adapters.
