About this boat ramp
Sunrise Recreation Area is a Sacramento County park on the American River at Sunrise Boulevard in Rancho Cordova, split into Upper and Lower Sunrise. Lower Sunrise is the classic summer put-in for rafting and floating the river, and Upper Sunrise has a launch for small boats and rafts.
On the river
The river here is swift and cold, and flows depend on releases from Nimbus Dam. Check flows before you go and wear a life jacket.
Around the park
Lower Sunrise has fishing, picnic areas and an equestrian staging area, and connects to Sacramento Bar by the Jim Jones Bridge for walkers, bikes and horses. Upper Sunrise has the historic Fair Oaks Bridge. Both connect to the Jedediah Smith Memorial Bike Trail.
Getting there & access
Getting there
From U.S. 50 take Sunrise Boulevard north, turn right at the park sign just before the river, then left for Lower Sunrise or right for Upper Sunrise.
River safety
The water is swift and cold even in summer, and flows change with Nimbus Dam releases. Wear a life jacket.
