About this boat ramp

Sugarloaf Public Boat Ramp is a Forest Service launch on the upper Sacramento River Arm of [Shasta Lake](/lakes/shasta-lake), in the Sugarloaf area of Lakehead about a mile west of Interstate 5.

A low-water ramp

Sugarloaf is the backup for the [Antlers ramp](/ramps/antlers-boat-ramp-shasta-lake). Its two lanes come into use once the lake drops past about 75 feet of drawdown, when Antlers is out of the water, and stay usable to about 160 feet.

Good to know

It's day use only, with vault toilets and no drinking water, and unlike the other Forest Service ramps it has no lighted parking. The ramp may close when the lot fills or when spring debris makes launching hazardous.

Getting there & access

By road

From I-5 take exit 702 (Antlers Road/Lakeshore Drive), turn left, then left at the stop sign, and follow Lakeshore Drive about 3 miles.

Mussel rules

Arrive clean, drained and completely dry: at least 5 days dry if the boat was last used outside the area, or 30 days (or a professional decontamination) after waters with golden mussels. Show a signed Mussel-Free Self-Certification through the windshield.

Low water

Ramps work only to certain drawdowns. Check the lake level and call the Shasta Lake Ranger Station, (530) 275-1587, before you tow.
