Boat ramp guide
Santa Barbara Harbor Launch Ramp
Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara County, CA
Overview
The public launch ramp at Santa Barbara Harbor is a small boat launch on the harbor's north shoreline, at Cabrillo Boulevard and Castillo Street. It is run by the City of Santa Barbara Waterfront Department and is the main way for trailer boaters to get on the water here, since the harbor otherwise rents slips and moorings to permanent and visiting boats.
Parking and trailers
The launch ramp lot is pay parking, and the City's map describes it as running 24 hours a day year-round. It holds 181 spaces, including 63 for trailers. Waterfront lots close from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., except the Harbor Main lot and the launch ramp. Boat trailers must park in the yellow diamond trailer stalls. Stays are limited to three consecutive 24-hour periods, and there are no in-and-out privileges.
Fees and wash-down
The City's FY2026 schedule listed trailer parking at $3.50 an hour with a maximum of $8.00 per 24 hours, and a wash-down service at $1.00 for 5 minutes. The City updates fees each fiscal year, so check the posted rate at the kiosk.
Heading out
Once afloat, you travel at 5 mph, no wake, through the harbor. Sand builds up in the entrance channel, so call Harbor Patrol on VHF 16 or 12, or at (805) 564-5530, for conditions before you run out.
Getting there & access
Getting there
The ramp is on the north shoreline of the harbor, at Cabrillo Boulevard and Castillo Street. Look for the launch ramp parking area on Cabrillo Boulevard.
Trailer parking
Park trailers only in the yellow diamond trailer stalls in the launch ramp area. Parking is pay-by-kiosk. Stays are limited to three consecutive 24-hour periods, and there are no in-and-out privileges.
Before you launch
Check the entrance conditions with Harbor Patrol. Sand fills the channel, especially after storms, and boats have had to hug the channel edges and use Harbor Patrol escorts. Call (805) 564-5530 or hail VHF 16 or 12.
After launch
Keep to 5 mph with no wake inside the harbor. Visiting boats can register for a slip at the Harbor Patrol Accommodation Dock, and fuel is at the fuel dock, open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
