Boat ramp guide
Lake Forest Boat Ramp
Tahoe City, Placer County, CA
Overview
The Lake Forest Boat Ramp is the Tahoe City Public Utility District's public launch on Lake Tahoe's north shore, at 2500 Lake Forest Road off Highway 28, about 1.5 miles east of Tahoe City. It's the main public trailer ramp near Tahoe City, separate from the full-service Tahoe City Marina downtown.
Inspection comes first
Every motorized boat needs a TRPA boat inspection before launching and has to arrive sealed. Get inspected at a Tahoe inspection station before you come to the ramp; Tahoe Boat Inspections can be reached at (888) 824-6267. Kayaks and paddleboards don't need an inspection. Since March 27, 2025, TRPA has also required decontamination for all visiting motorized boats entering Lake Tahoe, with a minimum $30 fee, a response to golden mussels found in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Boats still wearing a Tahoe seal from their last launch at Tahoe can relaunch without reinspection.
Parking and fees
The lot is day-use only, with no overnight parking. TCPUD lists 32 boat-trailer spaces, 1 ADA boat space, 4 prep spaces and a handful of car spaces, so it fills on summer weekends. Daily launch fees are $20 for District residents and $75 for non-residents, and seasonal and annual passes are sold.
Hours
Hours change through the year, from early-morning summer openings to shorter winter days. Check TCPUD's posted schedule before you go.

Common boat service needs here
Clean, drain and dry
Tahoe's inspection program turns away or decontaminates boats with standing water or growth. A thorough cleaning, with bilges and ballast tanks drained and dried, makes inspection faster and cheaper.
Find Boat Detailing & Washing providers →Winterization and engine service
Freezing nights in spring and fall and hard winters mean engines, raw-water systems and ballast tanks need proper winterization and spring commissioning.
Find Marine Mechanics & Engine Service providers →Covers and canvas
High-altitude UV and snow load wear out covers and Biminis quickly, so quality covers matter for boats parked in the Tahoe Basin.
Find Canvas, Covers & Upholstery providers →Storage
Day-use-only parking at the ramp means boats need a home between trips. Seasonal and winter storage near Tahoe City is a common need.
