About this boat ramp
Discovery Park is a 302-acre Sacramento County park beside I-5 in downtown Sacramento, at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers. Its boat ramp and car-top launch on the American River are among the county's busiest, a short run to the Sacramento River in either direction.
Launching
The park is open sunrise to sunset year-round. Vehicles with trailers pay $15 and cars pay $8; if no fee collector is present, you pay yourself. Car-top boats like kayaks and canoes can launch here too.
High water
Discovery Park is part of the Sacramento flood control system and is designed to flood. In wet winters the launch and parking can be underwater, so check the county's park status before you go. The confluence also has strong currents, so wear a life jacket.
Getting there & access
Getting there
From I-5 take Richards Boulevard for the south entrance or Garden Highway for the north entrance.
Before you go
In winter and spring the park can be flooded or closed. Check Sacramento County's park status page first.
