Boat ramp guide
Channel Islands Harbor Public Launch Ramp
Oxnard, Ventura County, CA
Overview
The Channel Islands Harbor Public Launch Ramp is Ventura County's trailer ramp at 3001 Victoria Avenue in Oxnard, on the harbor's east channel. You enter at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Curlew Way. The Ventura County Harbor Department runs the harbor.
Layout
The ramp has six launch lanes and four wash stations. Restrooms are on the south side. Just north of the ramp, the East Bank Day Dock has an EZ Kayak Launch and a rinse-off station, so paddlers don't have to share the main ramp lanes.
Parking and fees
Day-use parking is $17 and overnight (unoccupied) parking is $24. Occupied RV overnight stays need a reservation through RoverPass, a separate booking system that isn't a County facility. The pay station takes bills, coins and Visa or Mastercard, and you must display your receipt face up on the dash. The boat and trailer wash costs $3.50 for the first five minutes, quarters only.
On the water
The harbor and entrance channel have a 5 mph speed limit. The area southeast of the entrance is subject to rapid, unpredictable shoaling, so use extra care approaching from the south, especially at night. Harbor Patrol monitors VHF 12 and 16 around the clock. The harbor fuel dock, on the east side just north of the Harbor Department offices, sells gas and diesel from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Getting there & access
By road
Take Victoria Avenue to Curlew Way and turn into the ramp lot at 3001 Victoria Avenue on the east side of the harbor. Restrooms are on the south side of the ramp.
Paying and parking
Pay at the station (bills, coins, Visa or Mastercard): $17 for day use or $24 overnight for an unoccupied vehicle. Display the receipt face up on the dash. Occupied RV overnight stays need a RoverPass reservation.
Leaving the harbor
Keep to 5 mph in the harbor and entrance channel. The area southeast of the entrance is subject to rapid and uncertain shoaling, so take care approaching from the south, especially at night.
Paddlecraft
Kayaks and paddleboards can launch from the East Bank Day Dock just north of the ramp, which has an EZ Kayak Launch and 2-hour free parking at the green curbs. If you do use the main ramp, the harbor suggests launching at off-peak times.
Radio and emergencies
Harbor Patrol monitors VHF 12 (non-emergency) and 16 (emergency) 24 hours a day. Non-emergency phone (805) 973-5959; emergency (805) 382-3000 or 911.
