Sunset Aquatic Park and Marina

Huntington Beach, Orange County, CA

Overview

Sunset Aquatic Park sits at 2901 Edinger Avenue in Huntington Beach, in the Sunset-Huntington harbor. It is a county-owned waterfront park with a public marina that California State Parks lists as a launch ramp, dry storage and wet-slip facility for boats from 20 to 100 feet. OC Parks says the marinas here are run by private lessees, so slip availability and rates come from the marina office, not the parks department.

What is here

The state boating-facilities database lists a launch with two boarding floats and two carry-down walkways, parking for 187 vehicles with trailers, and dry storage for 162 boats. Dock services include shore power, water, showers, restrooms, a washdown area, laundry, and oil disposal and pump-out. The marina also advertises wet slips and FOB-controlled entry.

Guest slips and launching

The Sheriff's Harbor Patrol lists guest slips here at $0.50 per foot per night with a $50 dock-access security deposit, and says trailer boats can launch for a per-day fee that includes 24-hour parking. Published launch figures differ between sources, so confirm current rates by phone before you go.

Getting to sea

Boats leave through the Anaheim Bay channel at the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station. Personal watercraft must be towed through the area, and kayaks and paddleboards are prohibited there, so these craft should stay inside the harbor. The harbor itself has a 5 mph limit.

Getting there & access

By water

The marina is inside Huntington Harbour. To reach the ocean, run out through the bridge and the marked Anaheim Bay channel at the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach. Stay in the marked civilian channel and follow Navy instructions.

Trailer boats

The ramp has two boarding floats and carry-down walkways, with parking for 187 vehicles with trailers. Pay the posted fee at the gate or wash rack; the Harbor Patrol page cites a per-day fee that includes 24-hour parking, but figures differ by source, so check current rates. Tell staff if you will leave a vehicle for an extended period.

Guest slips

Call the marina office or OC Parks marina manager to arrange guest dockage. The Harbor Patrol lists a $0.50 per foot nightly rate and a $50 security deposit for dock access.

Rules & official resources

Common boat service needs here

Dry storage and trailer-boat care

With 162 dry storage spaces and a busy ramp, many boats here are launched and hauled, so owners need freshwater washdowns, trailer checks and engine flushes.

Engine and outboard service

Boats making the trip through Anaheim Bay to sea depend on reliable cooling systems and impellers, and the fuel situation inside the harbor is limited.

Hull cleaning for wet-slip boats

Warm, sheltered harbor water drives marine growth on boats in wet slips, so regular diver cleaning is common.

Detailing

Sun and salt on boats stored outdoors lead to oxidized gelcoat and regular wash-and-wax work.
