Quivira Basin

San Diego, San Diego County, CA

Overview

Quivira Basin is the main small-craft basin on Mission Bay, tucked just inside the ocean entrance channel. A 2006 Coastal Commission staff report described it as roughly 60 to 70 acres of water with depths of 15 to 20 feet, the deepest water body in the park. It holds four marinas right beside each other, with a hotel, conference center, sportfishing and boat repair nearby.

Who is here

Marina Village at 1936 Quivira Way lists vessels from 25 to 78 feet, with transient berths, power and water on the docks, restrooms, showers and pump-out. Seaforth Marina at 1677 Quivira Road offers slips and an office open on weekdays and Saturday morning. Seaforth Sportfishing at 1717 Quivira Road runs half-day to multi-day fishing trips, and Seaforth Boat Rentals has rented boats from 14-foot fishing boats to 56-foot yachts since 1976. San Diego Lifeguard Services is based at 2581 Quivira Court.

Fuel

A fuel dock is verified at nearby Dana Landing, 2580 Ingraham Street, (619) 226-2929. Older navigation text lists gasoline and diesel at a Quivira Basin repair facility, and an industry directory lists a fuel dock at Marina Village. Confirm with the marina by phone before counting on fuel here.

Boating notes

Quivira Basin is a no-wake zone, since marina areas are steerage way only. The entrance channel outside can see breaking swell and strong tidal current, so check conditions before heading out to sea.

Getting there & access

By water

Quivira Basin opens off the Mission Bay entrance channel just inside the jetties. Older Coast Pilot text warns that large swells can break across the entrance and strong tidal current can run in the channel. Marina areas are steerage-way, no wake.

By road

Reach Quivira Road from the I-5, I-8 and I-15 area. Seaforth lists its sportfishing landing as the fourth building on the right after turning onto Quivira Road. Marina Village is at 1936 Quivira Way.

Transient berths

California's boating division lists transient berths or tie-ups at Marina Village. Call ahead for availability and rates. The Dana on Mission Bay hotel, nearby, offers 25-foot guest slips for its hotel guests with reservations.

Emergencies

San Diego Lifeguard Services is based on Quivira Court. Call 911 or use VHF channel 16.
