Marina guide

Pine Flat Lake Marina

Piedra, Fresno County, CA

Overview

Pine Flat Lake Marina is the privately run marina on Sunnyslope Road at the Deer Creek recreation area of Pine Flat Lake, the Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Kings River about 30 miles east of Fresno. The family-run company behind it, PFLM, Inc., started in 2005 by buying the old Lakeridge Marina, then bought the Lakeview Resort in August 2011 and opened a second marina, Lakeview Marina, beside the Lakeview ramp.

What's here

The Sunnyslope Road marina lists about 400 slips and tie-ups for boats roughly 14 to 36 ft, with fuel, a convenience store, fishing tackle, rental boats, transient tie-ups and a pump-out. Next door is the Corps' Deer Creek launch ramp, one of the lake's two busiest. It's a long, continuous ramp with a boarding float, 94 paved vehicle-and-trailer spaces, 20 single-vehicle spaces and about 3 acres of dirt overflow parking when the water is low.

Fees and hours

The Corps owns and runs the launch ramps, and they're open 24 hours a day, year-round. A 2020 state report listed a $5 daily entrance and parking fee at Corps areas with ramps, no separate launch fee, and a $40 annual pass. Check posted rates on site.

Seasons

Peak season runs April through September, and Memorial Day and Fourth of July weekends are the busiest days. Water levels change through the year, so check current lake levels before you tow.

Getting there & access

Driving in

From Highway 99 take Highway 180 east, then N. Piedra Road and E. Trimmer Springs Road to Sunnyslope Road. The marina and Deer Creek ramp are on Sunnyslope Road (30547–30799 block), about 30 miles east of Fresno.

Launching at Deer Creek

The Corps' Deer Creek ramp is a single long, continuous ramp graded to follow the shoreline, so it reaches the water across a wide range of lake levels. It has a boarding float and a two-stall vault restroom near the top of the parking area.

Parking and fees

Paved parking has 94 vehicle-and-trailer spaces and 20 single-vehicle spaces, plus about 3 acres of dirt and gravel overflow when the lake is low. The Corps charges a daily entrance and parking fee at ramp areas; there's no separate launch fee.

Other Corps ramps

Lakeview (end of Lombardo's Road, about 2 miles farther east on Trimmer Springs Road) has several ramps for different water levels and its own marina. Island Park and Trimmer are quieter, less-used Corps ramps. Call the Corps' Pine Flat office at (559) 787-2589 for current conditions.

Common boat service needs here

Engine service before peak season

Most use is packed into April through September, so owners schedule tune-ups and impeller changes in spring to avoid breakdowns on busy weekends far from town.

Gelcoat and oxidation care

Central Valley foothill heat and strong sun oxidize gelcoat quickly on boats kept in open slips.

Canvas and upholstery

Summer sun at Pine Flat breaks down covers, Bimini tops and seats, so canvas replacement is a common need.

Moving boats with the lake level

As the lake level changes through the year, owners often need towing or transport to pull slip boats out or move them between ramps and storage.
