Marina guide

Millerton Marina

Friant, Fresno County, CA

Overview

Millerton Marina is the marina on Millerton Lake, set in Winchell Cove within Millerton Lake State Recreation Area on the San Joaquin River near Friant. It's where Fresno-area boaters keep a boat in the water, rent a pontoon or fishing boat, or store a boat on land.

The marina

The state boating directory lists about 360 slips and tie-ups and 40 dry storage spaces, with boat rentals, fishing tackle and restrooms. Another marina directory lists a fuel dock. The marina road is gated: the gate closes after the park's day-use hours and needs a code, so slip holders should get it before arriving late.

Park fees and hours

The marina sits inside the state park, so park rules apply. The current info sheet lists day-use parking at $10 per vehicle and a $7 boat launch fee, with holiday rates on major weekends, and the State Parks Boat Use pass is accepted. Day-use hours run 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. from April through September and close earlier the rest of the year. Boating is allowed year-round.

On the water

It's 5 mph within 200 ft of shorelines used by swimmers. Towing is banned in buoyed 5 mph areas and in the river channel east of Finegold Bay, which also has a 35 mph limit. Two-stroke engines must meet a two-star emissions rating, and you can't moor at courtesy docks or tie to buoys. Water levels change often, so watch for shallows and hazards.

Getting there & access

Getting there

The marina is in Winchell Cove off the park's South Shore. The South Shore day-use entrance is at 5290 Millerton Rd, Friant; the North Shore campgrounds are at 47597 Rd 145.

Gate code

The marina gate closes after the park's day-use hours and needs a code to open. Slip holders should get the code from the marina before planning late returns.

Launching

State Parks runs several vehicle launch ramps around the lake, and a $7 launch fee applies. Mooring at courtesy docks isn't allowed, and diving off rocks or launch ramps is prohibited.

Before you launch

Every boat entering the park must complete a self-inspection for invasive species. Two-stroke engines must have a two-star emissions rating or better to run on the lake.

Rules & official resources

Common boat service needs here

Two-stroke and engine service

Millerton's two-star emissions rule for two-strokes means older outboards and PWCs may need service or repowering before they can run here.

Dry storage and slip services

With limited slips and only about 40 dry storage spaces, owners often look for storage and dock services nearby.

Gelcoat and canvas care

Long, hot San Joaquin Valley summers fade gelcoat and wear out covers on boats kept in open slips.

Washdown after other waters

The park's invasive-species self-inspection is easier with a clean, dry boat, so a wash and dry before arriving is a common need.
