Lake Skinner Marina & Boat Ramp

Winchester, Riverside County, CA

Overview

Lake Skinner Marina is the camp store and boat ramp complex at Lake Skinner Recreation Area, 37701 Warren Road in Winchester, northeast of Temecula. The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California owns the reservoir and Riverside County Parks runs recreation. It is a fishing lake, not a ski lake.

Marina services

The camp store marina rents boats year-round and sells bait, tackle, ice and supplies. Dry storage is available for boats and rigs. A second ramp (Ramp 2) is close by, with three small shade shelters, about 115 trailer parking spaces and a larger dry storage area.

What boats are allowed

Boats must be at least 12 feet long and 42 inches wide, with 12 inches of freeboard at idle. Kayaks must be at least 10 feet, non-bailing and sit-inside; sit-on-tops, inflatables, jet skis and towing are not allowed. Engines must be four-stroke or direct-injection two-stroke meeting CARB 2001 or later (or EPA 2006) standards, and only MTBE-free gas is allowed.

Speed and contact rules

The lake speed limit is 10 mph, dropping to 5 mph within 100 feet of shore, dams and marina areas. There's no swimming or body contact, and alcohol isn't allowed on boats or in the marina. Boats need an inspection and decal by appointment and then sit out a 7-day quarantine, so plan launches a week ahead.
