Glorietta Bay Marina and Boat Launch
Coronado, San Diego County, CA
Overview
Glorietta Bay is a small, sheltered cove on the bay side of Coronado, south of the Coronado Golf Course. The Port of San Diego describes it as a secluded area of San Diego Bay with calm, protected waters. It is home to Glorietta Bay Marina, the city's public boat launch ramp and the Coronado Yacht Club, all along Strand Way.
The marina
Glorietta Bay Marina, at 1715 Strand Way, advertises 100 slips from 20 to 110 feet on new dock systems. Its phone number is (619) 435-5203. The marina also has a public pump-out station that the Port lists as open 24 hours a day at no charge. We could not confirm a guest slip count or fuel on site, so call before you plan a stop.
The launch ramp
The public ramp on Strand Way is run by the City of Coronado. The Port lists it at 1825 Strand Way, and no overnight parking is allowed. The Port states there is no cost to launch at the bay's public ramps. From the ramp to the main channel of San Diego Bay the speed limit is 5 miles per hour.
Anchoring and shallow water
The A5 anchorage in Glorietta Bay is available by Harbor Police permit for 72 hours at a time. Check a current chart before you leave the cove, because the Port warns of shallow areas immediately outside Glorietta Bay.
Who uses it
The cove suits daysailers, small powerboats, paddlers and anglers. Coronado Yacht Club, at 1631 Strand Way, shares the shoreline, and the Navy's North Island and Amphibious Base lie nearby, so keep clear of restricted areas on the main bay.
Getting there & access
Entering from the bay
Glorietta Bay opens off the main channel on Coronado's bay side. There are shallow areas immediately outside the cove, so check a current chart. The speed limit is 5 mph from the ramp out to the main channel.
Launch ramp
The public ramp is on Strand Way. The Port lists it at 1825 Strand Way and the state boating-facilities database at 1845 Strand Way, so use the Strand Way frontage next to the marina. It has restrooms and picnic space. No overnight parking is allowed.
Anchoring
The A5 anchorage south of the Coronado Golf Course is by Harbor Police permit, 72 hours at a time. Reserve online through the Port's boating reservation system or call the Mooring Office at (619) 686-6227. Holding tanks are required.
Yacht club reciprocal
Coronado Yacht Club, 1631 Strand Way, monitors VHF 69. It accepts members of recognized yacht clubs for courtesy berthing when space allows; call (619) 435-1848 in advance.
By land
Strand Way runs along the cove in Coronado. The ramp has no overnight parking, so plan where the tow vehicle and trailer will go.
