Coyote Point Marina

San Mateo, San Mateo County, CA

Overview

Coyote Point Marina is San Mateo County's public marina on the South Bay shoreline, just south of San Francisco International Airport. It sits inside Coyote Point Recreation Area at 1900 Coyote Point Drive and is run by San Mateo County Parks. The marina is open every day, including weekends and holidays.

Layout and who uses it

The basin holds roughly 486 slips and tie-ups. Berths run from 24 to 60 feet, and larger side ties take multihulls up to 75 feet. Every slip comes with 30-amp shore power and water, with utilities included in the rent. There's also a launch ramp with boarding floats and trailer parking. Anglers, powerboaters, sailors and paddlers all use it, and an outrigger canoe club paddles from here.

What's different about boating here

This is shallow South Bay water. The county warns that the fuel dock may close during low tides and recommends booking fueling ahead, so plan departures and fuel stops around the tide. Check the tide table before every trip, not just when you need fuel.

Before you go

Visitors can rent a guest berth by the night for up to 10 days. Liveaboards are not allowed, and tenants may stay aboard up to 3 nights a week.

Getting there & access

By road

Take Coyote Point Drive into Coyote Point Recreation Area in San Mateo; the marina is at 1900 Coyote Point Drive on the bay shore. The state facility listing shows about 50 trailer parking spaces at the launch.

Launching

The launch area has 16 boarding floats and two carry-down walkways for paddlecraft. A launch fee applies; check the current County fee schedule or call the marina office before your first visit.

Fueling and tides

The fuel dock sells unleaded gas and red-dye diesel from 8am to 4pm daily and accepts WEX fleet cards. The County recommends making an appointment and warns the dock may close during low-tide conditions.

Common boat service needs here

Diver hull cleaning

Boats kept in the warm, shallow South Bay pick up growth quickly, so most tenants schedule regular diver cleanings to keep speed and fuel use in check.

Engine service

Tide-timed departures and short runs against afternoon chop are hard on outboards and inboards; routine impeller, cooling and fuel-system service prevents breakdowns out in the bay.

Canvas and covers

Strong afternoon westerlies and year-round sun wear out bimini tops, sail covers and enclosures, so canvas repair and replacement is a common need.

Washdowns and detailing

Salt spray and airport-area grime build up on decks and gelcoat; regular washing and waxing protects finishes.
