Chula Vista Marina and Boat Launch
Chula Vista, San Diego County, CA
Overview
Chula Vista Marina sits on the southeast shore of San Diego Bay, in the Chula Vista Bayfront district. The City of Chula Vista describes it as having more than 552 slips, concrete docks and private dock boxes, with a quiet, park-like setting. The Port of San Diego lists it as Safe Harbor Bayfront at 550 Marina Parkway, and Safe Harbor Marinas, which acquired the marina in 2022, operates it.
Layout
Safe Harbor South Bay, at 640 Marina Parkway, and the public ramp at Bayfront Park are close by. According to the city, the marina is about 10 miles from the open ocean.
The public launch ramp
The Port lists the Chula Vista ramp in Bayfront Park, at the foot of Marina Way. There is no cost to launch, and the Port says there is a large parking lot for vehicles with trailers. The Port also lists a public pump-out at the ramp, open 24 hours with no fee. Bayfront Park is open 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The Port warns that the adjacent areas of the bay have extremely shallow shoal areas.
What boating here is like
Keep to marked channels and check tides and your chart before leaving the basin, because the Port warns of extremely shallow shoals next to the ramp. The city notes a public fishing pier beside the marina.
Services nearby
Marine Group Boat Works at 997 G St. lists haul-out for vessels up to 820 tons.
Getting there & access
Entering by water
The marina is at the south end of San Diego Bay. The Port warns that areas next to the ramp have extremely shallow shoals, so rely on a current chart and local knowledge, and watch the tide on a deep-draft boat.
Launching a trailer boat
Use the Chula Vista ramp at Bayfront Park, at the foot of Marina Way. The state lists the ramp with carry-down walkways, restrooms, showers and picnic areas. The Port says launching is free and the parking lot is large enough for trailers.
Guest slips
The marina does not publish a transient slip count on the sources we checked. Call Safe Harbor Bayfront at (619) 691-1860 or Safe Harbor South Bay at (619) 422-2595 before you arrive.
By land
Marina Way and Marina Parkway lead to the waterfront from the I-5 corridor in Chula Vista. The city notes a shuttle and trolley connection.
