Bass Lake Water Sports & Marina

Bass Lake, Madera County, CA

Overview

Bass Lake Water Sports & Marina, long known as Bass Lake Boat Rentals, is the marina at The Pines Resort on the north shore of Bass Lake, in the Madera County Sierra foothills. It's one of only two public launch locations on the lake, and one of three marinas that sell the Pollution Control Permit every boat on Bass Lake needs.

What's here

The state facility listing shows a marina and launch with 5 boarding floats, 2 carry-down walkways and 20 parking spaces for vehicles with trailers. The marina sells fuel, rents boats, offers haul-out and repair, has transient tie-ups and shore-boat service, and runs a store with tackle and ice. Rentals have included ski boats, patio boats, fishing boats, personal watercraft, kayaks and paddleboards.

Boating on Bass Lake

The lake has its own county rules. Traffic runs counterclockwise. A 5 mph, no-wake limit applies from sunset or 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. and inside the orange buoys along the shore. On Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends a 40 mph limit applies. Personal watercraft stay inside two white-buoyed PWC areas, one on the north shore across from Millers Landing and one on the south shore.

Before you go

Buy your Pollution Control Permit here or at the other two marinas before launching. Bass Lake is fresh water, so registered boats also need a current Mussel Fee sticker. Ask the marina about current launch fees and inspection requirements.

Getting there & access

Launching

This is one of Bass Lake's two public launch locations; the other is the Wishon Point ramp on the south shore. The marina has 5 boarding floats and 2 carry-down walkways, but only about 20 trailer parking spaces, so arrive early on summer weekends.

Permit first

Every boat on Bass Lake needs a Pollution Control Permit, sold only at Bass Lake Boat Rentals, Millers Landing and Forks Resort. Buy it before you launch.

Visiting by boat

The marina lists transient berths or tie-ups, fuel and shore-boat service, so boaters launching elsewhere can stop for fuel, supplies or a meal at The Pines.

On the water

Head counterclockwise when you leave the 5 mph shoreline zone. After sunset or 8 p.m., whichever comes first, the whole lake is 5 mph, no wake until 8 a.m.
