About this lake
Status: Turlock Lake State Recreation Area is closed. In March 2026 Stanislaus County and the Turlock Irrigation District approved an agreement for Stanislaus County Parks and Recreation to run the day use area and make improvements to reopen it. The park may reopen as soon as summer 2027.
Turlock Lake is a Turlock Irrigation District lake about 25 miles east of Modesto, with 26 miles of shoreline. The state recreation area had picnic areas and boat ramps at the lake and a 60-site campground on the Tuolumne River about a mile away.
Plans
The county plans a waterpark, picnicking, fishing, swimming, non-motorized boating such as kayaks and canoes, small-engine motor boating and seasonal waterfowl hunting when the park reopens.
