Shaver Lake

Shaver Lake, Fresno County, CA

Overview

Shaver Lake is a Sierra National Forest reservoir in Fresno County, owned by Southern California Edison. The Fresno County Public Works department leases the public launch ramp from Edison and states that it does not control access to the ramp or its parking. The ramp is at 45795 Tollhouse Road, and Camp Edison, Edison's lakeside campground at 42696 Tollhouse Road, sits beside it.

The public ramp

The County says there are no fees for use of the ramps or parking. It is open April through October, seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Vehicle and trailer parking is available. The state directory lists the launch at Camp Edison under County of Fresno operation.

Marinas

Shaver Lake Marina at Camp Edison offers a fuel dock, store and trailer parking. Sierra Marina, at the north end off Highway 168, has fuel, a store, marine service and wet and dry storage. The lake is popular for waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing, personal watercraft, pontoons and fishing boats.

Rules

The Fresno County Sheriff's Boating Enforcement Unit patrols the lake, along with Pine Flat and Huntington. Boats travel counter-clockwise, with a 50 mph daytime limit and 5 mph at night. Edison's rules ask boaters to wear life jackets, watch for rocks near shore, fly a flag when swimmers are in the water, and keep out of the posted no-wake zones. Drones and fireworks are banned.

Common boat service needs here

Pre-season engine service

The ramp is open only April through October, so many boats are de-winterized in spring. Impeller, fuel-system and cooling checks are common before the first launch.

Winterizing and storage
