About this lake

Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area is a former gravel quarry in Pleasanton, donated by Kaiser Industries and opened as a park in 1971. Its 80-acre main lake is one of the few East Bay lakes where you can launch your own small boat.

Boating

Boats up to 17 feet can launch here, with electric motors only; gas engines and jet skis aren't allowed, and boats stay out of the arroyo areas. Every craft is inspected for invasive mussels first. Kayaks, pedal boats, rowboats and paddleboards can be rented at the marina, which is closed Mondays.

Fishing and swimming

Trout and catfish are stocked weekly in season, and the lake also holds bluegill and black bass. The swim beach is closed for now and is expected to reopen for the 2027 season.
