Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve is a 194-acre park with seven lakes in Santee, in San Diego's East County, with more than 5 miles of trails.
On the water
Pedal boats tour the lakes and islands. The lakes are stocked year-round, and you buy a fishing permit at the General Store; no state fishing license is needed.
Camping
The campground has 300 full-hookup sites plus lakefront and over-the-water cabins. More than 200 bird species have been recorded at the preserve.

Hours change by season; it opens earlier on Friday to Sunday. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
