About this lake
Packer Lake is a small high lake near the Sierra Buttes in the Tahoe National Forest, three miles west of Gold Lake Highway on Packer Lake Road.
On the water
The Forest Service lists fishing, swimming and boating. Its picnic site has vault toilets but no drinking water. The Forest Service asks boaters to clean, drain and dry and to check launching rules before visiting.
Packer Lake Lodge
The lodge rents cabins between the snows, usually Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend; 2026 reservations opened March 1. The owners say Packer Lake reliably produces stocked rainbow and brook trout, and fifteen fishing lakes lie within four miles.
Getting there & access
Getting there
From Gold Lake Highway, take Packer Lake Road about three miles west.
Golden mussels
The Forest Service asks every boater to clean, drain and dry boats, trailers and gear, never drain bilge or ballast into the lake, and check the lake's launching rules before visiting. California also requires a Mussel Fee Sticker on motorized boats used in fresh water.
