About this lake

McCloud Reservoir sits on the McCloud River about 12 miles south of the town of McCloud in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

Boat ramp

The Forest Service ramp is open for day use from sunrise to sunset. It has a boat dock for loading and unloading only, large parking spaces for vehicles with trailers, a vault toilet and two picnic tables. There's no drinking water and no camping. Parking is $5 a day at the self-pay station, or $25 for an annual pass from the McCloud or Mount Shasta ranger stations.

On the water

All coves are 5 mph. Waterskiing and jet skiing are allowed in the southern, downstream part of the reservoir past the big island. No fishing, swimming or picnicking on the dock.

Mussel rules

The Forest Service asks boaters to follow clean, drain and dry steps to avoid moving invasive mussels.

Getting there & access

Getting there

From the McCloud Ranger Station turn right on Highway 89, go about half a mile, turn left on Forest Road 11 and drive 12 miles, staying left at the Y.

Parking

Display a parking permit on the dashboard even if you don't launch.

Golden mussels

The Forest Service asks every boater to clean, drain and dry boats, trailers and gear and to check the lake's launching rules before visiting. California also requires a Mussel Fee Sticker on motorized boats used in fresh water.
