About this lake

Status: no boating. There's no boathouse, and pedal boat rentals haven't run for nearly two decades. In August 2026 the Department of Recreation and Parks said it aims to bring pedal boats back before fall 2027, run by a private vendor. No opening date is set.

MacArthur Park Lake sits in MacArthur Park at 653 South Alvarado Street in Westlake, west of downtown Los Angeles.

The pedal boat plan

Before boats return, the city plans to repair the existing dock, build a new rental stand and require weekly water quality testing. The vendor must keep a lifesaving-trained person on site during rental hours. The lake is about 14 feet deep.

Today

Fishing is allowed. Swimming isn't.
