About this lake

Lower Sardine Lake sits right at the base of the Sierra Buttes above Sierra City, home to Sardine Lake Resort under a Tahoe National Forest permit.

On the water

The resort rents rowboats ($35 a day) and boats with electric trolling motors ($70 a day) from 8 a.m. until dusk. The speed limit is 5 mph, each boat carries up to four people, and no one under 16 can drive. Life jackets are provided and required. Swimming isn't allowed.

Fishing and staying

The lake is a designated premium fishing lake, stocked with rainbow trout in summer. The resort has nine log cabins, usually booked by the week, and a lakeside dining room and bar from Memorial Day weekend through October.
