About this lake

Status: Kern County says Lake Woollomes' water level will be extremely low until further notice because of repairs on the canal.

Lake Woollomes is a 300-acre equalizing reservoir on the Friant-Kern Canal, about 3 miles southeast of Delano. The Bureau of Reclamation owns it and Kern County Parks leases the 455-acre park.

On the water

Only sailboats, rowboats and canoes are allowed; power boats, motorboats and personal watercraft are not. Every boat needs the all-county lake permit ($60 a year) and a capacity tag, sailboats 8 feet or longer need California registration, and boats must use the launch ramp. There's a boat dock, and swimming is allowed at your own risk with no lifeguards.

Day use

The park is open year-round with four miles of shoreline fishing, picnic areas, a group area you can reserve and restrooms. There's no camping and no alcohol. On weekends and holidays from March 1 to September 15 there's a vehicle fee.
