About this lake

Lake McSwain is the afterbay below Lake McClure, run by the Merced Irrigation District about six miles from Snelling. Its water level stays steady regardless of local water conditions.

On the water

Lake McSwain is a 10 mph lake, and sport watercraft aren't allowed. There's a boat launch ramp with parking, kayak rentals, a swimming beach and a fish cleaning station. Splash-n-Dash runs a large floating inflatable water park on the lake in summer.

Mussel rules

Lake McSwain is on the regional self-inspection permit: boats must be clean, drained and dry each time they launch, dry for 5 days in summer and 30 days in spring, fall and winter, and display the signed permit on the dashboard.

Camping and cabins

The campground has 111 sites, 65 with water and electric hookups, and free hot showers. Park cabins sleep six to eight for $185 to $205 a night, with a two-night minimum and no pets. The Reel Deal Market and Cafe is open in summer.
