About this lake

Lake Mary is in the Mammoth Lakes Basin, a few minutes' drive above the town of Mammoth Lakes on Lake Mary Road, at about 8,900 feet in the Inyo National Forest.

On the water

The Forest Service lists Lake Mary among the basin lakes open to motorized boating, and there's a public launch off Lake Mary Road. Two summer concessions rent boats: Lake Mary Marina and Pokonobe Marina. Trailered boats need the free Eastern Sierra mussel inspection and sticker before launching.

Staying over

Crystal Crag Lodge on the southwest shore rents cabins and boats. Lake Mary Campground has 48 sites at $34 a night, reserved through Recreation.gov, with bear lockers at every site; Coldwater and Pine City campgrounds are close by.

Winter

The road is open in summer. In winter the lake is reached only on groomed cross-country ski and snowshoe trails.

Getting there & access

Getting there

Take Highway 203 west through Mammoth Lakes; it becomes Lake Mary Road and climbs into the Lakes Basin.

Season

The road is open in summer. In winter the basin is reached on groomed ski and snowshoe trails.

Mussel inspection

Since April 2026, Mono County requires every trailered boat and jet ski to be inspected before launching. Inspections, decontamination and the Eastern Sierra mussel sticker are free at Eastern Sierra WID stations (list at EasternSierraWID.com). Residents inspect once a year; visitors inspect on entering Mono or Inyo County, and again after launching anywhere outside the two counties. Arrive clean, drained and dry.
