About this lake
Lafayette Reservoir is an EBMUD water supply reservoir in Lafayette, set in 928 acres of open space and ringed by a 2.7-mile paved Lakeside Trail. It's one of the East Bay's most popular places to rent a rowboat or pedal boat.
Boating
You can bring a cartop boat 7 feet 10 inches or longer, with an electric trolling motor if you like, and float tubes are allowed. Trailered boats, gas engines and stand-up paddleboards aren't. Every private boat needs an invasive mussel inspection first. Boats must be off the water when the Visitor Center closes, and swimming and wading are prohibited.
Rentals
The Visitor Center rents boats to adults 18 and older with a $40 deposit; rentals end an hour before closing.
Fishing and trails
The lake is fished for bass, crappie, trout and catfish, with worms the only live bait allowed. Above the paved loop, the 4.7-mile dirt Rim Trail climbs the ridges.
