About this lake
Dodge Reservoir is a 480-acre high-desert reservoir at about 5,600 feet, roughly 17 miles northeast of Ravendale. The Dodge Brothers built it in 1937 for irrigation, and the Bureau of Land Management's Eagle Lake Field Office manages the campground.
On the water
The state boating directory lists a launch with carry-down access. The reservoir has traditionally been stocked with rainbow, Lahontan cutthroat and brown trout, and fishing is best in spring and early summer when water is highest. The Dodge Ranch holds the water rights with no minimum pool, so call the field office about current water before a trip. California requires a Mussel Fee Sticker on boats used in fresh water.
Camping
The free campground has picnic tables and a wheelchair-accessible vault toilet, but no water or trash pickup. The stay limit is 14 days in 28. County Road 506 is unimproved dirt and can become impassable in wet weather.
Getting there & access
Getting there
From Susanville take Highway 395 north 54 miles to Ravendale, County Road 502 for 12 miles, County Road 506 for 11 miles, then left one mile to the campground. Road 506 is dirt and can be impassable when wet.
Mussel sticker
Registered boats used in fresh water need a current California Mussel Fee Sticker. Arrive clean, drained and dry.
