About this lake

Big Lagoon is the southernmost of the Humboldt Lagoons, seven miles north of Trinidad.

On the water

Big Lagoon County Park has a boat ramp to the lagoon, and kayaking is allowed. Kayaks can be rented from Kayak Trinidad. Licensed anglers may fish; Big Lagoon is barbless hooks only. Afternoon winds can make conditions treacherous, and the ocean side has rogue waves and rip currents; check tide tables so high tide doesn't trap you.

Camping and day use

The county campground has 25 first-come sites at $30 a night (cash or check), a seven-night maximum, coin-operated hot showers and a camp host. Day use is $5 per vehicle. The park sits next to Humboldt Lagoons State Park.
