Harbor guide
Oceanside Harbor
Oceanside, San Diego County, CA
Overview
Oceanside Harbor is the City of Oceanside's small craft harbor at the north end of San Diego County, run by the City's Harbor Office at 1540 Harbor Drive North. It is the main public launch point for trailer boats on this stretch of coast and serves sportfishing, sailing and cruising boats.
Launching
The launch ramp is free. The state boating directory lists 110 trailer parking spaces and four boarding floats. Free daytime trailer parking is available in Lot 1 east of the railroad tracks. Paid parking is $10 from September 16 to May 14 and $15 from May 15 to September 15 between 4 a.m. and 8 p.m., and $20 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Trailers in Lot 1 after 8 p.m. need a pass from Harbor Administration.
Slips and guest dock
The City rents private slips of 26, 34, 43 and 51 feet, with water and electric dockside. The guest dock offers 24 slips of 34 feet plus side ties. Boats without reservations pull into the Guest Check-in Slips, numbers 5, 6 and 7. Reservations are taken up to 60 days ahead, the maximum stay is 30 days, and checkout is at 11 a.m.
Conditions
The entrance is close to the beach and can be hazardous in a large south or southwest swell, and seasonal kelp beds sit near the approaches. Anchoring is not permitted in the harbor. A pump-out station, boat wash and live bait are available.
Getting there & access
Entering from sea
The harbor opens close to the beach and a large south or southwest swell can make the entrance dangerous. Seasonal kelp beds sit nearby. The outer breakwater protects the south entrance, and the north basin is restricted to military vessels.
Trailer boats
The free ramp has four boarding floats. Park trailers in Lot 1 east of the railroad tracks for free by day, or pay at the lots near the ramp. A parking pass is needed after 8 p.m.
Guest slips
Arrive at the Guest Check-in Slips (5, 6 and 7) if you have no reservation. Reservations are by phone or in person at the Harbor Office, up to 60 days ahead, with a 30-day maximum stay and 11 a.m. checkout.
Anchoring and emergencies
Anchoring is not permitted inside the harbor, so guest slips are the only mooring option. After hours, call Harbor Police on VHF 16. A Marine Safety Unit operates 24 hours a day.
