About this fishing area

Upper Otay Reservoir is a small City of San Diego reservoir above Lower Otay Lake in Chula Vista, kept as a catch-and-release fishery for northern-strain largemouth bass.

Fishing

Fishing is from shore or float tube only, with artificial lures and barbless hooks. Every fish goes back. Bluegill, catfish, crappie and carp share the lake with the bass.

Access

Anglers can walk in from sunrise to sunset on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. There's no boating, and facilities are limited to restrooms.

Getting there

Use 12161 Otay Lakes Road in Chula Vista and walk in to the water.

Closures

Closed Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, the second Wednesday of each month, and Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
