Fishing area guide
Hermosa Beach Pier
Hermosa Beach, Los Angeles County, CA
Overview
The Hermosa Beach Pier runs 1,140 feet out from The Strand at the foot of Pier Avenue, in the middle of Hermosa's wide, volleyball-lined beach. The current pier was built in 1965 and renovated in the early 2000s. It's owned by the City of Hermosa Beach and is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Fishing
Fishing is allowed from the pier, and because it's a public pier you don't need a fishing license. California Fish and Wildlife rules still apply, including size and bag limits. The City bans overhead casting and throwing bait or litter on the pier. There's a bait shop at the pier.
The beach around it
LA County lifeguards watch the beach during daylight hours, and there are restrooms and showers nearby. Pier Plaza sits at the foot of the pier, with restaurants nearby. Volleyball nets cover the sand, and the beach is popular for surfing and swimming. Swimmers and surfers are advised to stay at least 100 feet from the pilings.
Before you go
The City's rules are strict. Pets aren't allowed on the beach or the pier, although leashed dogs can walk The Strand. Alcohol isn't allowed on the pier or beach, and smoking and vaping are banned citywide on the beach, pier, Pier Plaza and Strand. You'll also need to walk bikes, skateboards and scooters on the pier. Parking is metered on the street and in a public lot, so allow time on summer weekends.
