About this fishing area
Capitola Wharf is an 855-foot fishing pier on Monterey Bay at the foot of Capitola Village, first built in 1857. Storms in 2023 broke it in two, and it reopened on September 25, 2024 after a rebuild of roughly $10 million.
What's new
The rebuild widened the deck from 20 to 36 feet, replaced nearly all the decking and railings, added about 150 new pilings, and brought new restrooms, lighting, benches, mounted viewing scopes and a new boat launch area.
Fishing and boats
The wharf is a popular pier-fishing spot, with a bait and tackle shop and a boat rental facility that rents fishing boats for Monterey Bay. Capitola Beach and the village's restaurants are right at the foot of the wharf.
