About this beach

Trinidad State Beach is a secluded cove 19 miles north of Eureka, with sandy beaches, forest and open bluffs. A short walk through the woods and across the bluffs leads down to the sand. It's on the land of the Ner'-er-nerh (Coastal Yurok) people.

Visiting

Day use is sunrise to sunset and there's no entrance or parking fee. Low tide is the best time to explore the tide pools; check tide tables so you don't get trapped. Surf fishing is allowed, for rockfish, surfperch and halibut. Swimming isn't advised: the water is cold and sneaker waves happen. Restrooms, drinking water and a small picnic area with tables and grills are near the parking lot.

Trail closure

Part of the Elkhead trail system is closed: the whole College Cove access trail from the Elkhead Loop junction, and the far western end of the Elkhead Bluff Trail. Dogs are allowed, but State Parks says not on the trails.

Getting there & access

Getting there

Take the Trinidad exit (728) from Highway 101, go west on Main Street to Stagecoach Road and turn right; the entrance is about 200 feet on the left. A second entrance is about half a mile north.

Tides

Visit at low tide and check tide tables so high water doesn't trap you.
