About this beach

Topanga Beach is the first real beach in Malibu, with more than a mile of frontage at the mouth of Topanga Canyon. It's one of the most popular surf spots in the area; the waves break over cobblestones and reef, which also makes it a poor swimming beach. Divers and anglers use it too.

It was a state beach until 1995, when the State of California deeded it to Los Angeles County.
