About this beach

Silver Strand State Beach sits on the narrow strand 4.5 miles south of Coronado on Highway 75, with the Pacific on one side and San Diego Bay on the other. Paved tunnels under the highway link the three ocean-side lots to the bayside picnic areas and Crown Cove.

On the water

On the bay side, non-motorized craft can launch south of Crown Cove Point outside the buoyed swim zone, and both motorized and non-motorized boats can launch from the bayside beach north of the point, 7 a.m. to sunset. The Crown Cove Aquatic Center dock is for loading and unloading only, 15 minutes at most. Kite surfers launch and land in a marked zone near the entrance kiosk.

Camping

The campground on the ocean side is for self-contained vehicles such as motorhomes and trailers.

Water quality

Sewage-contaminated runoff from the Tijuana River has closed the water here before. Check the County's beach status at sdbeachinfo.com before swimming or paddling.

Rules

Dogs aren't allowed on the beaches; leashed dogs can be in the parking lots, the campground and on the bayside paved trails. No wood or charcoal fires (self-standing stoves are OK), and alcohol and glass only inside campsites. Drones need a permit.

Getting there & access
