About this beach

Seal Beach's main beach sits at the foot of Main Street and Ocean Avenue, at the west end of town, just south of the San Gabriel River mouth. The Municipal Pier runs 1,865 feet out, one of the longest wooden piers in California.

Surfing and swimming

Hardboard surfing isn't allowed in posted blackball areas (a yellow flag with a black circle). In summer that covers the stretch from the Anaheim Jetty to Tower 7 at 2nd Street. No swimming or bodyboarding in the San Gabriel River at any time. Offshore currents and the jetties can make swimming hazardous.

Getting there

There are fee lots at beach level on both sides of the pier, free parking at the foot of First Street, and plenty of street parking. Steep driveways lead down to the sand; the south one is a little easier. A beach wheelchair is available first come, first served from the lifeguard station below the pier.

Rules

No dogs on the beach or pier (leashed dogs are fine in Eisenhower Park on the bluff). No fires, barbecues or open flames on the beach, and no smoking on the beach or pier. No tents; shades must be open on at least two sides. No jumping or diving off the pier.
