About this beach
Rodeo Beach is a pebbly beach in the Marin Headlands, part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area, between Fort Cronkhite and Rodeo Lagoon. It's popular with surfers and a common starting point for a day in the Headlands.
At the beach
Strong waves and currents leave unusually coarse sand and a rainbow of chert pebbles in green, yellow, red and black; admire them, but leave them on the beach. Barbecues and picnic tables make it a good spot for groups, and there are restrooms by the lot. The Park Service says Stinson Beach is the recreation area's only swimming beach, and the water can be as cold as 50°F.
Trails
Park along Bunker Road near the Marine Mammal Center to reach Old Bunker Road, the Coastal Trail and Battery Townsley. A full loop on the Coastal, Wolf Ridge and Miwok trails takes about half a day.
