About this beach

Status: Closed (checked October 26, 2026). Westward Beach Road beyond the pay gate at Birdview Avenue and the Point Dume Beach parking lot have been closed since August 2, 2026, after high tides and surf eroded the bluff close to the road. Restrooms 1, 2 and 3 are closed because erosion damaged their water line. There's no reopening date. LA County warns not to cross cones, tape or barriers; the bluff edge has drop-offs of up to 8 feet.

When it's open, Point Dume Beach has more than a mile of frontage and 34 acres of sand framed by headlands, cliffs and rocky coves, with a trail up to an old coastal bluff dune. It's used for swimming, diving, surfing and scuba, and the lot holds 373 cars.

Rules

LA County beach rules apply: no dogs, alcohol, smoking, glass, fires or barbecues, and no loitering between midnight and 6 a.m.
