About this beach

Moss Landing State Beach is a free day-use beach on Jetty Road in Moss Landing, 16 miles north of Monterey off Highway 1. Dunes shelter it from the afternoon wind, and it's used for fishing, surfing, windsurfing, birdwatching and horseback riding. Strong rip currents make swimming risky.

Rules

The beach is open 8 a.m. to sunset and there's no fee. Fires are allowed only in the park fire ring at the south beach access trail. Dogs aren't allowed on the beach or dunes, but leashed dogs are OK on Jetty Road. No drones, and no vehicles or trailers over 21 feet. Posted snowy plover nesting areas are off-limits.
