About this beach

Montaña de Oro State Park is about 15 miles west of San Luis Obispo, reached by Los Osos Valley Road and Pecho Valley Road. Spooner's Cove, across from the campground, is its best-known beach. Pecho Valley Road dead-ends at the Coon Creek lot, so you leave the way you came.

Current alerts

Access to Coralina Cove is closed indefinitely because of storm erosion. Poison oak and ticks are common.

Camping

Islay Creek Campground has 47 primitive tent and RV sites (RVs up to 27 feet), with toilets and fire rings but no hookups or showers. There are also environmental camps (no water, no fires) and a horse camp.

Rules

The park is open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dogs on a 6-foot leash are allowed at Spooner's Cove, in campsites and on park roads, but not on trails.
