About this beach

Huntington State Beach is a 121-acre State Parks beach at 21601 Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach, west of Magnolia Avenue. Its swells come from the south and west, so surfing is good year-round.

Fire rings and fishing

Fire rings are open every day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., first come, first served; bonfires are allowed only in the State Parks rings. Surf fishing is allowed when no swimmers are nearby, for perch, corbina, croaker and cabezon, with a California fishing license.

Safety

Lifeguards patrol year-round, and towers are staffed roughly Memorial Day through Labor Day. Rip currents here can be extremely dangerous.

Wildlife

The south end, between Talbert Channel and the Santa Ana River, is a nesting sanctuary for California least terns and western snowy plovers. Stay out of it.

Rules

Pets aren't allowed on the sand or in the water; leashed pets are OK on the bike trail and in the lots. No alcohol without a special event permit.
