About this beach

Hearst San Simeon State Park stretches along Highway 1 between Cambria and San Simeon, about 35 miles north of San Luis Obispo. Its beaches include William Randolph Hearst Memorial Beach by the San Simeon Pier, San Simeon Creek Beach, Washburn Day Use Beach, Leffingwell Landing and Santa Rosa Creek Beach. The San Simeon Pier reopened after repairs in 2025.

Dogs

Leashed dogs are allowed at Hearst Memorial Beach, on the Moonstone Beach Boardwalk, on the Junge Ranch Trail and in campgrounds and lots. They're not allowed on the San Simeon Pier, San Simeon Creek Beach, Washburn Day Use Beach, Leffingwell Landing or Santa Rosa Creek Beach.

Camping

San Simeon Creek Campground has 134 tent and RV sites (no electric hookups) with token showers, and Washburn has 68 primitive sites.

Hours

Parking lots are open 8 a.m. to sunset. Elephant seal viewing to the north is free; the nearest restrooms to it are at Hearst Memorial Beach.

The park runs along Highway 1 between Cambria (2 miles south) and San Simeon (1.5 miles north).

The viewing area to the north is free and has no restrooms; use the ones at Hearst Memorial Beach.
