About this beach

Doran Beach is a wide, 2-mile beach on Bodega Bay in Sonoma County's Doran Regional Park, the county's first regional park (1967). Because it faces south, waves are usually calmer than elsewhere on the Sonoma Coast, which makes it a family favorite.

On the water

People come to walk, fish, kayak, body-board and kite surf. The rock jetty at the west end is popular for rock fishing and sea life, and the park's boat launch (see our Doran boat launch page) reaches Bodega Bay and Bodega Harbor, with an ADA-accessible kayak launch.

Camping and visiting

More than 120 campsites in five areas take tents, trailers and RVs, with reservations up to six months ahead; there are no hookups, generator hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and showers are coin-operated. The park is open 7 a.m. to sunset, and the entrance closes when lots fill on busy summer weekends and holidays, so arrive by mid-morning. Free all-terrain wheelchairs are available, and an accessible boardwalk crosses the dunes. Keep dogs leashed and stay out of fenced snowy plover areas.

Getting there & access

Getting there
