About this beach

Del Mar's beach runs from 6th Street past Powerhouse Park and the 17th Street lifeguard headquarters to the Solana Beach border. Blue flags mark the safe swimming areas, and a yellow flag with a black ball marks no-surfing zones.

Dogs

Dog rules change with the season. From June 16 through Labor Day, dogs aren't allowed from Powerhouse Park to 29th Street; north of 29th Street they may be off leash from dawn to 8 a.m. and must be leashed after that. The rest of the year, dogs may run off leash from 29th Street north to the Solana Beach border, and must be leashed farther south. Leashes can be up to 6 feet, and leash fines start at $285.

Rules

Del Mar doesn't allow open fires or fire rings on its beaches or bluffs; propane barbecues and stoves are allowed. Alcohol is banned on the beach, accesses, parks and lots from March 1 through the day after Labor Day, smoking is banned on beaches, and tents aren't allowed.

Parking and facilities

Paid parking is enforced 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. year-round. Public restrooms are under the stage at the Powerhouse Community Center, and free tide books are at lifeguard headquarters on 17th Street.
